The Bhal region of Gujarat sits between the Gulf of Khambhat and the Nal Sarovar wetlands. For centuries, its unique alkaline-clay soil and precise rainfall pattern have produced a wheat variety found nowhere else on earth — Bhalia wheat, naturally high in protein, rich in flavour, and impossible to replicate in any other terroir.
In 2011, this wheat received India's first-ever Geographical Indication tag for a grain variety — the same kind of legal protection that guards Champagne, Darjeeling Tea, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. It is not marketing. It is geography.
The Bridge
Farm to family, nothing in between.
The typical supply chain for staple grains in India passes through 5-7 intermediaries: village aggregator, mandi agent, commission agent, wholesaler, distributor, retailer. Each adds margin. None adds value. By the time grain reaches your kitchen, the farmer has earned a fraction of what you paid, and the grain has lost its identity entirely.
Grameen Cart collapses that chain to one link. We work directly with farming families in the Bhal region, purchase at the farm gate at a fair price they set, and deliver to your door — unpolished, unbleached, untouched by commodity markets.
